Chronological Order Advantages and Disadvantages

The advantages of telling a story in chronological order are that all of what happened is in order for the reader, watcher, listener, etc. It's not all jumbled into one story so you have to think of what happened when. In a chronological story, everything flows together smoothly in order. The disadvantages of telling a story in chronological are that the writer can't use anything like flashbacks that could help tell what led to the events. Without flashbacks, readers have no image of what happened in the past that holds clues for what the writer is telling us, so the reader can't have a full understanding of the story.
