How Would "There Will Come Soft Rains" Be Different With Flashbacks...?

If the author had used flashbacks, the story could've been quite different. With flashbacks, we could've seen how the family had started their regular day, what was going on, etc. We could also have seen why, and when, the bomb or whatever it was, went off. We could've also seen what was around the family and their home before it all turned to ashes, and why the families house was the only one left standing.
